In a significant development, an RTI has revealed some eyebrow-raising observations on Delhi Police's financial behavior. According to RTI and news reports Delhi Police has spent more than Rs 82 crore on advertising and publicity on various platforms. This has received mixed responses from power corridors, on one hand top sources say it became a necessity because in 2019-20 the Delhi Police's credibility was under question and mired by a series of storms, however on the other hand top sources in the power corridors say that from figures it appears that there has been some overspending on this venture, and if we look the spending graph, it rose and almost peaked even after 2019 situation that means under former CPs especially Rakesh Asthana and S.N Srivastava hefty spending was done that too when the media budget of Delhi Police was reduced and only witnessed a slight increase. Whereas it could have been done in a controlled manner and maintaining a healthy balance between image makeovers and modernization. It won't be incorrect to say that it could have broken the ice if Delhi Police had invested more in the right policies of modernization and new initiatives rather than in hasty experiments and solely image makeovers. Modernization and perception are interlinked, if police become smart and more professional then automatically the perception of the civilian community would change, power corridors reckons.
