Intelligence Bureau To Go In FBI Mode Soon?

In a major development in the power corridors, it has been learned from top sources that Government is planning to give some teeth to Intelligence Bureau, in other words, MHA is planning to arm the Intelligence bureau with powers similar to what the FBI has in US with respect to securing national security at domestic front. Sources say that until now IB didn't have any powers of its own, it was primarily dependent on law enforcement agencies at the ground i.e. specialized agencies and local police thereby making IB operationally dependent. However, IB may get some powers like- powers to register FIR, summon, and powers to carry out an investigation. Almost every domestic intelligence agency in the world has some powers delegated or designated by legislation, however, IB with respect to the exercise of powers is somewhat heavily limited. If the Center in the coming months gives green light to this major reform then it would boost the power of India's intelligence architecture which is currently surrounded by the shadows of revamp.
