The present secretary security V.S.K Kaumudi is set to retire next week and the name of the successor is still hazy. It appears that center is doing a heavy brain exercise to finalize the name of the next secretary security. The reasons are pretty obvious, technically the SPG chief reports to the Secretary Security which makes Secretary Security senior to the SPG Chief in terms of hierarchy. Therefore, an officer who is senior to the SPG chief(above 87 batch) has to fill the boots of Kaumudi's successor. The difficulty for the South Block is that almost all the officers senior to the 1987 batch are retired or completing their last leg of service years. This seniority factor limits the options or to some extent leaves South Block with no options. According to top sources, South Block as a last resort measure may play a fine card of inter-se seniority and if this happens, then it is possible that Mukul Goel may be the next successor of Kaumudi. Sources add that Goel is senior to SPG Chief in terms of inter-se seniority and if South Block decides to go in the "inter-se seniority way" then a possibility of this cannot be ignored. Sources further add that another scenario involves possible re-adjustments from CAPF. Sources suggest.
