BUREAURCRACY
Monday, 23 January, 2023 01:19:PM
The current CBI chief is going to complete his two-year tenure in May this year. With, months nearing, power corridors have started to brainstorm on the country's premier investigating agency. The two-year tenure of Subodh Jaiswal was a quitey affair to a certain extent. Perhaps, his R&AW experience helped him to sail in silence. Jaiswal was one the very few directors who kept the balance mode on and yet remained effective, top sources say. South Block to some extent has mixed views over it but, Jaiswal's working style delivered results, top sources add. Considering this, extension is slightly possible, few more reasons that back the chances of extension is a weak succession line, Sinha is most likely out of the race, with this remains Ajay Bhatnagar, whose chances are also slim, top sources say. A weak succession line and working style can be a few convincing reasons for one year extension to Subodh Jaiswal but those reasons are not the only 'solid' ones. South Block knows that a year is only left for the next Lok Sabha elections, and a 'balence' mode at the top helm of CBI might not go too well with the top brass of South Block, especially with the Prime Minister. If South Block does not wishes to discount the political necessities then a new face can enter the CBI office but if discounted then Jaiswal's chances of continuing may get a fillip. However, top sources say that in an event of new face, Delhi Police can get yet another chance to re-enter the office of the CBI Director.
