Apart from G-20 preparations in Delhi Police Headquarters, an unusual rippling in PHQ about a trivial issue is getting some traction these days. According to top sources, it is about the official vehicle of Special CPs. Sources say that some Special CPs are pushing hard to drop the sedan-Ciaz and take the SUV- Safari as their official vehicle. This Safari obsession seems to sound trivial but it may have its own reasons. Currently, only Police Commissioner and a few Special CPs use SUV as their official vehicle, but in the recent past, the demand for the SUV has increased among Special CPs. Top sources add that two probable reasons are behind this 'Safari obsession', first- it could be a genuine requirement since SUVs have improved performance with good visibility on the roads, and with the upcoming G-20 event, vehicle upgradation seems to be needed. Second- Some sources say that it is just a flashy affair, some Special CPs are obsessed with SUVs because Ciaz is not as flashy and comfortable for them especially when they see their batchmates traveling in Safari. One senior official in the power corridor in the condition of anonymity said " Ciaz is still used by the top brasses of South and North Block, only one officer is required to travel for field visits, and two in case of emergency, it is not the case where there is need to fit PHQ in one vehicle, this is quite weird and childish on part of Special CPs". Whatever may be the case, if the sedan and SUV debate is in the picture because of non-genuine reasons then it is surprising and unusual to see ADG rank officers having more than 25 years of service pushing such trivial issues. If not then they to some extent have the right reasons to call for replacement.
