As the third term for Ajay Bhalla seems slim, the race for the next Home Secretary has started getting some pace. According to top sources, it has been learned that Secretary Culture, Govind Mohan, and Secretary I&B Apurva Chandra are leading the race for the next Home Secretary. Considering fewer options in the 1988 batch because many of them either retired or not so suitable for the top job only leaving a few. In such a situation, 1989 batch IAS officers are most suitable option for top brass and the reasons are also quite obvious- they all have a good time in their hand and they have proved their mettle by efficiently working on crucial responsibilities given by the government one such example is Urban Development Secretary Manoj Joshi oversaw construction and development of new parliament and Govind Mohan who oversaw Cultural affairs and playing a crucial role in G-20 and most importantly, the brain behind revamping and opening Prime Minister Sangrahlaya In April 2022. Chandra's candidature for Home Secretary perhaps is an expectation among the 1988 batch and the reasons for it is explainable to some extent, Chandra is considered an upright and straight arrow who took social media and streaming platforms to task by banning all questionable content moreover, his role in keeping watch on the media platforms. Therefore, considering the strong credentials of Govind Mohan and Apurva Chandra, a tight race for the next Home Secretary is in the offing. Whatever maybe the case but would be interesting to see how the picture will turn out next month.
