A sudden vacuum at the office of the SPG Director has opened a new set of playing field for recently DG-empanelled IPS officers and those who wish to continue their innings in extension mode. An obvious line of succession is currently being discussed in the power corridors, according to which SPG's second in command, Additional Director Alok Sharma, is said to be next on the helm of SPG. However, Sharma faces an interesting conundrum. Top sources have said that Sharma wishes to move out from SPG and wants to serve a state's DGP(not UP). He has been in SPG for six or seven years, and as time passed, he started to give some push for his exit from SPG, but things unfortunately did not materialise, top sources said. Now, with three years of service in hand and a vacuum at the top, Sharma perhaps finds himself in a deadlock if he gets an additional charge which, if stretched for long, just like DG BSF or, in the unpredictable scenario, a full charge of SPG Director then his DGP aspirations would gradually start to seize for which he seems more inclined in the recent past, top sources say. If things fell in his favour, then he might succeed a DGP on inter cadre deputation who is scheduled to retire in just a few months.
