Amid increasing CBI raids on Delhi Police, the spotlight is again on the headquarters, putting a glare on the decade-old illness of the Indian Police System- Corruption, though few have special cases, which include Delhi Police. Delhi Police is almost in the severe category when it comes to corruption. According to a national survey, Police corruption in Delhi has increased drastically. In 2016, Delhi Traffic cops were found to be the most corrupt in Delhi Police. Around 968 Tainted Delhi Police personnel facing prosecution, where Rohini District tops the list, having a maximum of 93 tainted policemen. This shows that the Delhi Police has been hit hard by corruption. Deterrent measures by former Police Commissioners have almost failed, thanks to some image-conscious Police Commissioners and to some Special CPs who were busy dreaming for their chance and had a habit of keeping the Police commissioner in the dark. Tides changed when a UT cadre IPS officer and former CP reached to its tipping point, and then the UT cadre asked to take a backseat, and outsiders began to rule the roost. Many visible and internal changes, makeovers etc were done to bring reform, enhance capability, modernise the force even change rules for transfer postings to make it more rigid, but everything surprisingly gets circumvented. It now seems that a new kind of deterrence is in the making. According to top sources, the Delhi Police Commissioner has given a free hand to the CBI to continue their anti-corruption operations against the Delhi Police. Top sources add that it's surprising that Police Commissioners, to avoid glare and embarrassment, request a slowdown from CBI, but the current Police Commissioner perhaps chose the gun in the "Butter vs Gun" debate which is being discussed and applauded by the top brass of power corridors because "At the end of the day someone has to make the enemies scared of the dark"
