Being Singham in today's evolving bureaucratic-politico landscape can be dangerous. As Prime Minister Narendra Modi once said, "police uniform is not associated with authority and awe but inspires pride" and advised new recruits of the Indian Police Service, but unfortunately, some officers, even after a decade of service, still have strong hangovers of "Singham-like policing". The Singham way of policing could be a strong deterrent in exceptional cases or postings, but in metropolitan and places of community-based policing, this approach not only creates unnecessary fear among people but also damages the discipline of the force. The recent case of a 2011 batch AGMUT cadre posted in Mizoram coming to Delhi to carry out a so-called "raid" now seems to have caught the attention of the MHA, and the Ministry has asked for a report from Delhi Police. "This IPS officer came to Delhi as if there is war broke out," a top source said.  An interstate police coordination follows proper protocol where the receiving state provides ground support to the operational team. But in this case, this IPS officer had hijacked the procedure and misused his power by taking Delhi Police official vehicles, using staff of Delhi Police on his own, etc. Top sources add that this raid was an ordinary one, hyping it up with unleashed power is a matter of grave concern on such young IPS officer," another senior IPS officer said. Interestingly, this IPS officer was once shunted from the DCP post after misbehaving at a party. Now, another incident will put this officer's career prospects in jeopardy. Whatever may be the case, what drives the brain of these young DCPs seriously requires introspection by top brasses.
