It's unfortunate to see a competent and bright DGP  fighting for his hard-earned reputation in court. There must be clarity for political masters that there is no silver bullet in damaging the prestige of senior IPS officers for a narrow game of settling scores. IPS officers like Sanjay Kundu deserve a warm and respectable sendoff, and it's been a year ever since the government changed in Himachal Pradesh; Kundu has already completed his tenure and was scheduled to retire in April. In a matter of four months, nothing significant would have been achieved for the political masters of Himachal Pradesh. Even if the argument of Sanjay Kundu getting in the fray of allegations is concerned. Few things should have been considered, keeping aside the facts of the case.  First, the State government must consider that Kundu has filed a defamation case rather than developing hostility or suspicion against Kundu at first few glances. Second, Kundu must have been given a fair opportunity to hear his side, Kundu's case could have been given patient attention to secure the ends of justice as the reputation of the state's DGP is at stake. Top sources say that "it seems that state's political masters saw this case as an opportunity to achieve narrow political and bureaucratic gains. "It appears that stage was being set to put Kundu in trouble during his last days in office", top sources said. If there were such much desperation to remove Kundu, he would have been quietly asked to shift through administrative action, putting his reputation at stake like this is incomprehensible. Political masters must realise that an IPS officer's prestige is above politics and that be respected and should be kept in mind while probing the highest helm of police institution.
