In what we can call a circumventing attempt by UP government to loosen New Delhi's grip over DGP appointment in state. According to sources it has been learned that UP government has cleared the proposal of constituting  a High level committee headed by retired High court judge and comprising of UPSC nominee and top state officials like Chief Secretary and Home Secretary. Furter a selection criteria has been also laid that the committee will only consider those officers who have minimum six months left.

By the selection criteria and composition, the  committee comes in consonance  with Supreme guidelines and procedures set for DGP appointment which makes it a legitimate alternative to circumvent New Delhi's influence of selecting a DGP, in long run it may create friction, a top source said.
