After a compelling battle between two Special Directors of Intelligence Bureau, now serving in CAPF organizations, which surprisingly ended in a stalemate for both the IPS officers. According to top sources, South Block and North are believed to be broadening their scope of consideration, leading to the emergence of two formidable contenders from the Intelligence Bureau-A.S Rajan, former Special Director IB and the soon-to-retire Secretary Security Swagat Das for the NTRO Chairman.
For the first time, Intelligence Bureau officials are gaining significant attention for a role traditionally considered 'R&AW's turf'. While R&AW's own officer R.R Swain seemed to be out of the running and Sunil Achaya IPS: 1991 batch, currently in R&AW, may not leave the agency, sources suggest that if the top brass fail to agree on a candidate next month, a potential extension of the selection process may be proposed for another six months. If this occurs, the incumbent R&AW Chief Ravi Sinha could potentially become the next NTRO Chief, a transition that would occur after his fixed tenure in June 2025.
