In a major development in the power corridor, it has been learned from top sources that North Block may end the culture of additional charge in CRPF, considering the dynamic situation. Sources say that a possibility of additional charge was expected around a few weeks back is now seem bleak since few days.

Sources add that Assam DGP G.P Singh's name has almost been given clearance from the state's competent authority, and appointment approval is now required from the Appointment Cabinet Committee. At one end, Singh's name has landed in Delhi. On the other hand, a top source said that the Assam Government has begun its search for a new DGP by proposing a five name panel for the next Assam DGP, where Harmeet Singh 1992 batch the top. "Interestingly, Assam Government a few weeks back denied the possibility of appointing new DGP, closing the deck for GP Singh, but within few days developments paced up", a top source said.

The reason for this fast development can be attributed to two factors: security anxiety in neighbourhood and CRPF's enhanced role. Second, there is a bureaucratic-political development between MHA and the state government. Singh is no doubt a competent and professional hawk, a much-needed man for CRPF, considering present developments. Meanwhile, his batchmate Shamsher Singh of Gujarat cadre has sought a central deputation who will most likely get a CAPF position. Similarly Rajesh Nirwan of 1992 batch and Rajasthan cadre has too sought central deputation who also may get some DG level post in centre in coming months.
