The long pending Women Reservation Bill, providing 33 percent reservation in parliament which was quite a difficult task for previous governments, has now been passed in the parliament, making it a historic development in the parliament. Although all the parties openly welcomed this decision and supported the bill, some opposition parties have decided to critically evaluate this decision and pull some strings out, top sources say. Congress, JDU and Samajwadi party have raised questions over non inclusion of OBCs in the bill, top sources say. The opposition parties are most likely to create new issues where at one end, they welcome the decision and on the other end, they critically take the view over the OBC inclusion, which to some extent seen as smart political manoeuvring by the Congress ahead of 2024 elections, top sources say. One more reason that shaping such stance of Congress is that the party has dropped their Anti- Mandal stance and has started to advocate for Caste Census and OBC inclusivity issues, this stance of the Congress party provides weight to Samajwadi's politico-socio objectives, top sources say. Ahead of the 2024 elections, such statements and crafted stances seem to be an attempt to put some political weight and strengthen each other politico-socio objectives, top sources add.
