Reports suggest that instead of introducing new initiatives, the newly elected BJP government in Odisha is focusing on altering the names of existing state projects. One of the major changes involves the renaming of the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojna to Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojna. The former scheme provided free treatment to approximately 96 lakh underprivileged families, with a coverage of up to 5 lakh rupees. Gopabandhu was a well-known writer, reformer, and social worker source says. In addition to this, the BJP government has renamed around 40 other schemes. This move gained momentum following Naveen Patnaik's announcement of support for the I.N.D.I.A block in the Rajya Sabha. As the BJP government lacks a majority in the upper house, it requires the support of like-minded parties to pass important bills. By removing the name of Biju Patnaik, the father of Naveen Patnaik, from various schemes, the BJP leadership appears to be attempting to emotionally impact the former CM source says. They seem to believe that this strategy will compel the BJD leader to support them in the Rajya Sabha.
