The Election Commission's radar has been in active mode ever since the Model Code of Conduct came into force. Today, the Election Commission made the first hit by shifting the home secretaries of six states, including one DGP and a senior IAS officer of Maharashtra. However, the most interesting incident happened with UP's Home Secretary, Sanjay Prasad. According to top sources, the UP Government's top brass anticipated a possible reshuffling by the EC and attempted to secure Prasad by taking him off the radar and relieving him from the post of Principal Secretary to the CM.
However, the UP Government got caught off guard when Sanjay Prasad was relieved from the other significant charge of the Home Secretary by the Election Commission. With this rejig, Prasad is now left with charge of the Information Broadcasting Department, which is obviously not so significant compared to his two other posts. Top sources say that this incident has made the power corridor wonder that a powerful bureaucrat with a flash lost the sheen that he had enjoyed for a few months. It has also been said that this incident should also be taken as a lesson by the UP Government that juggling charges does not always work, as the UP Government has been doing for years by juggling with DGPs.
