In the Panchayat elections, BJP could not repeat its last performance. SP has done fairly better in Ayodhya, Prayagraj, Mathura, and Varanasi, the victory in this stronghold of BJP has given the SP a new lease of life. Akhilesh Yadav, the President of the party said after the victory that the results will help his party on the grassroots during the next state elections. BSP supreme, Ms Mayawati after doing well comparatively in Agra, Mathura, Bullandsahr, Muradabad, Ghaziabad, Hapur, Saharanpur, Kanpur, Azamgarh, Mirzapur, and some neighboring districts stated that despite using money and state machinery by parties opposing to her, the results must be an eye-opener for those in power, sources say. BJP is trying to bring approximately 1238 independent candidates in their fold for the Chairman position to continue with present status, sources say.
